“I thought the game against New Zealand was enough and we showed character and confidence to come back to win,” said China’s Coach Corey Myers. But to go through it again today was nerve wrecking.”
New Zealand bounced back from their opening defeat by seeing
off South Korea 5-1 in the group’s other game. They will now face the Philippines,
who thrashed the Koreans 10-1 on day one in the last batch of group fixtures
tomorrow to see who joins the Chinese in the super round.
In Group B, Australia backed up their 5-1 win over Chinese
Taipei yesterday by easing past Indonesia 8-0 inside five innings. Chinese
Taipei, the highest-ranked side at the event at number six in the world
recovered with a 7-0 win over Hong Kong, who had pipped Indonesia 6-5
yesterday.

Slapdash boxing’s governing body, Aiba, has been bare of its right to host the Tokyo 2020 Olympic boxing tournament after a shocking report said its behavior obtainable serious legal, financial and reputational risks to the IOC and the Olympic Movement. Olympics 2020 followers from all over the world can buy Olympics Boxing tickets online.
Olympic Boxing: Aiba stripped of the right to run boxing tournament at Tokyo 2020 Olympics
Boxing will, though, remain in the Olympic 2020 Games, with the International Olympic Committee settling a task force headed by Molinari Watanabe, president of the International Gymnastics Federation, and would be charged with supervision the tournament.
The IOC chief, Thomas Bach, also rose up the issue of an expert boxing body getting involved in the Olympics 2020 after setting Watanabe a deadline of the end of June to come up with a plan.
Olympic Boxing: Aiba stripped of the right to run boxing tournament at Tokyo 2020 Olympics
“I am sure the task force will be in contact with some professional boxing organizations and maybe other partners,” said Bach, who also confirmed that Aiba would not return to the Olympic movement without “fundamental change”.
The IOC supposed it had to act after a six‑month study found
multiple problems with Aiba, including the risk it could go bankrupt given its
parlous financial state, which meant it could not even open a Swiss bank
account despite being based in Lausanne.

The IOC report also flagged up ongoing legal, reputational
and financial risks due to Aiba’s president, Gafur Rakhimov, being identified
as a key member of the Brothers’ Circle, a ‘criminal group composed of leaders
and senior members of several Eurasian criminal groups’ by the US Treasury Department,
which also said he was one of the leaders of Uzbek organized crime.
Rakhimov denies any wrongdoing. The IOC inveterate that it sustained
to have concerns about judging in the game as well as the conflicts of interest
among several Aiba board members.

In its conclusion, it also warned: “It is unclear how Aiba will be able to fulfill its roles and responsibilities according to the Olympic 2020 Charter, which are primarily the development of sport and support to the athletes.”
Aiba is hitherto to reply publicly to the IOC’s decision. Nonetheless this month it told the Guardian it would consider legal action if it was suspended. It too upholds that many of the glitches identified by the IOC came about during Wu Ching-Kuo’s controversial 11-year reign at the top of amateur boxing’s governing body between 2006 and 2017. It says it has made large reforms since.

But the IOC was incredulous, pointing out that in its report
that many ancient issues with Aiba remained and that a number of people who
were in senior places under Wu remain in the organization.

Minnesota teen wants to attend Stanford University after the
Tokyo 2020 Olympics, but there is a great price to pay. After winning her first race at the Phillips
66 U.S. championships, Regan Smith slipped into pink Crocs, looking like almost
every other swimmer competing in the meet at Stanford University this week.
But Smith is not a usual swimmer. She is the latest
sensation in U.S. swimming, America’s queen of the backstroke, and she also is
the incarnation of a growing impasse facing teenage superstar swimmers. Smith
is 17. Fans who want to watch the live-action of Olympic Swimming can getOlympic Swimming Tickets online.
Freshly completed World Championships in Gwangju, South
Korea, Smith won two gold medals and set three world records and was forced to
turn down the bonus money for the records. To do otherwise would be to
sacrifice her incompetent status and her option to attend college on a
scholarship.
Regan Smith, America’s new swimming impression, facing troubles outside pool
For now, Smith plans to attend Stanford in 2020. However,
she hopes to represent the United State in Tokyo 2020 Olympic next summer. And within
lies the root of the issue.
A year before the Olympics is when sponsors come calling. With swimming has become one of the premier Olympic sports in America, promising athletes such as Smith face increasing pressure to choose a big income over education.
Smith said she had desired to attend Stanford since she was
10 years old. She was born in the Bay Area, where Paul Smith worked for
Hewlett-Packard. His wife Kristi Smith was a financial officer for a San
Francisco firm. Paul Smith remembered telling Regan that she had to decide how
important it was to get accepted at Stanford, one of the country’s top academic
schools.
Regan Smith, America’s new swimming impression, facing troubles outside pool
Katie Ledecky, the biggest name in women’s swimming, made
the disadvantage in 2016. She accepted a scholarship to Stanford, managed the Fundamental
to NCAA championships in her freshman and sophomore years, and then turned pro
in 2018. She has continued her education, taking classes at Stanford and
training with the college team in a system permitted by NCAA officials.
Some opponents say it is not fair that a music student can
get paid to perform outside of school while athletes are held to a different
standard. To address such concerns, NCAA officials have made grants for
Olympians. According to the NCAA website, college athletes now can accept prize
money for medals from their country’s Olympics governing body without any
limit.
Ledecky was able to keep the $355,000 in medal awards she
won at the Rio Games while remaining eligible to compete for Stanford,
according to USA Today. The five-time gold medal winner turned pro last year to
take advantage of lucrative endorsement deals before the Tokyo 2020 Games.
Regan Smith, America’s new swimming impression, facing troubles outside pool
Other Bay Area collegians also kept their earnings for
winning gold medals in Rio, according to USA Today: Cal’s Ryan Murphy came away
with $234,375; Stanford’s Simone Manuel almost $200,000. Overall, 17 American
collegiate swimmers were allowed to keep about $1.5 million in prize money, the
paper reported.
NCAA president Mark Emmert sounded an alarm in 2016 after it
was reported that a University of Texas swimmer was given $740,000 from
Singapore for winning a gold medal in the 100-meter butterfly.
“To be impeccably honest, it’s triggered everybody to say, well that’s not really what we were thinking about, Emmert said during a discussion about college sports at The Aspen Institute. So I don’t know where the members will go on that. That’s a little different than 15 grand for the silver medal for swimming for the US of A.”
Regan Smith, America’s new swimming impression, facing troubles outside pool
Smith would keep any prize money for medals won at the Tokyo
2020 Olympic Games. But she cannot accept the money she earned by setting world
records in South Korea last month, more than a year before she would be a
college student. It is an example of how complicated the rules are.
Smith became the swimmer of the instant last month after marvelous Franklin’s seven-year-old world record in the 200 backstrokes with a time of 2 minutes 3.35 seconds. She also devastated the 100 backstroke world record last Sunday with a time of 57.57 seconds in the leadoff leg of the women’s 400 medley relay to help the Americans win the race and set a relay world record.
The results could be surprising but not totally surprising, said her coach Mike Parratto, known for developing former Stanford star Jenny Thompson, who won 12 Olympic medals. Two years back, Smith finished eighth in the 200 backstrokes at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest. She arrived in South Korea expecting to do better.
Regan Smith, America’s new swimming impression, facing troubles outside pool
“I just remember thinking if I can place higher and maybe squeeze in there for a medal for the USA, that would be unbelievable, Smith said this week after winning the 200 butterfly, her first senior national title, it still doesn’t feel like I’m at the level where I’m at, which is really crazy. But also, I really like where I’m at and I don’t want to lose the mindset … because I just feel like things could maybe go effortless if I lose that strong head on my shoulders.”

Olympic Hockey: FIH planning to have India, Pakistan plays Olympic 2020 qualification ties in Europe
India and Pakistan have been seeded in two separate halves
of the draw by FIH on Thursday and they could meet in the Olympics 2020 qualifying
tournament. According to a source in the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), the
FIH will soon be announcing draws for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 qualifiers.
“In the Olympic 2020 qualifiers the top tier sides will have to play against the lower tier teams and Pakistan and India which has already won one qualifying tournament could be drawn up against each other,” he said.
Egypt, Germany, South Korea, Pakistan, Spain, India, New
Zealand, and some other sides are expected to feature in the qualifying
tournament for the summer Games Olympics with seven berths at stake.
Olympic Hockey: FIH planning to have India, Pakistan plays Olympic 2020 qualification ties in Europe
The PHF source said they had managed to convince the FIH to
give them entry in the qualifying tournament after paying the first installment
of the fine imposed on the PHF for not sending its side for the Pro Hockey
League earlier this year.
“It is not necessary we might draw up India but if that happens then the FIH will probably schedule the matches in Europe as conditions are not conducive to play the matches in India or Pakistan,” he said.
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated in the aftermath of the Indian government’s scrapping of Article 370 which had accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

The source further said that preparations are on for
Pakistan to compete in the Olympic qualifying events as appearing in the Summer

currently ranked 17th in the world, had missed out on the last Olympic Games in
Brazil.

The Olympic football tournament has historic significance in
men’s football but means far less in global terms since the inception of
the Men’s World Cup. However, for women’s football, it remains one of
the premier tournaments. Olympic Football followers from all over the world can
buy Olympics Football
Tickets online.
An event open to the world with a markedly smaller pool than the World Cup, the Olympic football women’s tournament is a grueling two and a half weeks that typically bring a new meaning to the idea of there being “no easy games.”
After eight years away, Team GB will again be represented on
the pitch with all the requisite football associations in the United Kingdom
agreeing to let England qualify as the entire island the “nominated
nation,” England’s fourth-place finish at the World Cup this summer saw them
clinch the third and final available UEFA berth for the tournament. Thus, fans
will see Team GB take to the pitches in Japan next summer.
There is something admittedly messy about having Team GB at the Olympic 2020 women’s football tournament with each country in Great Britain reporting to a separate FA. The longstanding argument was a potential loss of autonomy but given the weight they can throw around as founding fathers in modern football, it’s rather a faux argument.
For those around Britain, the ever-present question is about the make-up of the team. In 2012, Powell opted to comprise her team of 16 English players and two Scots, the lack of Welsh players a contentious bone – not least because Cardiff were hosting games over the tournament. Powell’s argument was simply that her team selection was based on form rather than making sure the squad was equally sliced up but does the squad needs to be palpably Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish in order to garner support?
Olympic Football: Team GB at the Olympics 2020 and its struggle with tokenism
Can Team GB
ever be truly British?
We can all hope that the countries come together and back
Team GB, including the women’s football team, but it’s that same question of
can Team GB ever truly represent the constituent parts: Will it ever be
Scottish or Welsh or Northern Irish enough? When it comes to Team GB at the
Olympics 2020, it seems to be a question that only plagues football.
After all, no one complained when Chris Hoy bested fellow Scot Ross Edgar in the men’s Keirin at the 2008 Olympics; no one was crying out for more Welsh men on the cycling team. When the men’s gymnastics team claimed the all-around bronze in 2012, no one said,
“Hang on a tick, why aren’t there any lads from Northern Ireland in the team?”
Olympic Football: Team GB at the Olympics 2020 and its struggle with tokenism
Those who represent Team GB aren’t there to tick a box. No
one scurries around shouting, “but we need more welsh Olympians!” during the
athletic qualifiers.
Those who make the team are the best in their
sport and for that heady window over the summer once every four years, the
specifics of where they come from fade away. Bethany Firth might be the pride
of Seaforde but when she collected a highly impressive three gold’s and one
silver at the 2016 Paralympic Games, she was too many, just British.
When Zharnel Hughes or Tiffany Porter cross the finish line
wearing lycra stamped “Great Britain” no one at home is thinking about Hughes’
Anguillian accent or Porter’s upbringing in Michigan, all they see is someone
whose part of Team GB.
Old
rivalries put to rest
For the British, Team GB is truly a coming together of all
the composite nations of the United Kingdom. Whilst Andy Murray might be
thought of wet boring Scottish sponge by some in England when they
watch Wimbledon, as soon as he’s representing GB, he might as well be from
down the road; 30-love? We bloody do! Colin Jackson and his inoffensive dulcet
tones are well welcome on athletics commentary after his hurdling history for
GB, his Welsh background instantly forgotten.
Olympic Football: Team GB at the Olympics 2020 and its struggle with tokenism
Whilst Kim little is as Scottish as they come, the
pride of Mint law there is not one person born on the southern side of the
border who wouldn’t be shouting her on with everything in them if she was
wearing the union jack. And much more than tennis, the partisan English have
very specific views about the Scots.
Yes, the Olympics 2020 and Team GB may not bring the islands together in these Brexit times, not least because we would have all died of food, water and medicine shortages by then, but the Olympics 2020 is still generally that special event that brings people together.
As many experienced over the World Cup, everyone takes an interest and the commonality breaks down walls. For Britain, the Olympics 2020 is like that on the crank. It’s not just north and south getting in on the love in, but each country contributes, representatives from each nation all wearing the same spandex, singing the same anthem, helping GB get one over the other countries on the medals table.
Olympic Football: Team GB at the Olympics 2020 and its struggle with tokenism
Whilst it’s true that the Great Britain team next summer
will be “English-led” and English managed, the talent pool has opened up for
Phil Neville and with any hope, the squad he puts together will be the best at
his disposal. Whether that means he takes 1 or 18 players from England remains
to be seen, but there is no call for him to take anyone out of tokenism.
