The championship began with an inspiring opening ceremony which included a number of VIP speeches and a spectacular Tunisian cultural show which included traditional and modern dance as well as the parade of flags of the competing nations. The preliminary round, which included four groups of four teams, saw North Africa emerge the strongest of the continent’s teams with Egypt, Algeria and the host countries of Tunisia winning all their respective groups, as well as Angola, all with a record of 100%.
Egypt dominated Group A with three wins out of three, scoring 111 times with a goal difference of +51, Angola also won their three games, in Group B, scoring 81 times and conceding 69, to finish with a goal difference of +12. Egypt and Tunisia winning their respective groups in the main round and Algeria and Angola finishing second, the semi-finals are now scheduled for today, Tunisia, host country, will face Angola at 6:00 p.m. and l ‘Egypt will face Algeria at 3.30 p.m.
