The 58-year-old American, who is also the top coach of NBA side Philadelphia 76 years, substitutes the outgoing Andrej Lemanis in the top job. He before coached Australia between 2009 and 2012, which contained the 2010 World Championships in Turkey and an Olympic 2020 quarter-final arrival at London 2012.
Brown has been tasked with winning Australia’s first Olympic 2020 medal in Tokyo with Lemanis guiding the side recognized as the Boomers to their top-ever ranking of 3rd in the world. The departure coach also won gold at the 2017 Asia Cup and the 2018 Commonwealth Games but is walking sideways as he trusts Brown is the best person to lead the team in Tokyo. Cooperative deliberations were held between both coaches and Basketball Australia in the lead-up to the change.
Brown said “When the chance to coach the Boomers next summer in Tokyo came up, I was repeated of my deep past with Australia and Australian basketball. I touched a duty to effort and help in any method that I could. The soul of the country and the athletes of the country demonstrate on a day-to-day foundation the desire that is Australian sport.”
Brown added “This is our assignment and my note to our team we are going into the Olympic 2020 to win a gold medal. I understand the greatness of this statement. That passion is appreciated and documented through the world and I am very thrilled to be a share of that again. I would feel careless having any other purpose but this.”
Brown earlier helped as a junior coach at San Antonio Spurs for 11 seasons, a prayer that involved four NBA labels. He has also trained at Melbourne Tigers, North Melbourne Giants and Sydney Kings.
