Spells of snow fell on Tokyo on Friday, not a sample of thrilling worldwide weather but a portion of a heat-busting test by Olympics administrators.
Taka Okamura Told “The organizing committee needs to attempt all we can to dull the heat, and this is one of the thoughts we came up with. It is not going to lesser the air temperature, but confidently the ice will mark the people it hits feel cooler.”
The test took place at a canoeing event at the Sea Forest Waterway, with staff nourishing blocks of ice into a snow machine straddling on a truck. The machine distributed around 660lb of snow over 150 helpers placed in the stands during the early 5-minute testing.
Tokyo has a record of carefully hot summers: last year, there were more than 60 heat-related deaths in a week, warning the government to announce a national spare; and this summer, however, 5,000 people required hospital treatment during a heatwave.
Artificial snow will be covered over viewer seating, some of which may be in direct sunlight, during a canoeing event on September 13 that will help as a trial for the Olympics 2020, a spokeswoman for the Tokyo 2020 organizers told AFP.
One of the more fantastic answers put onward for the games is an umbrella hat, which spectators assign to their heads to protect their faces from the sun as grandly revealed at a press conference by Yuriko Koike, governor of Tokyo, formerly this year.
