As an incredible 2019 comes to an end, preparations are already well underway for the first event of Olympic 2020. A top field of athletes, including the likes of Joe Choong, Jamie Cooke, and Kate French, will kick off the new year with the National Ranking 2 Competition (Pentathlon) set to take place on Saturday 18th January at Pentathlon GB’s National Training Centre, the University of Bath.
Olympic fans from all over the world are invited to book Olympic 2020 tickets from our online platforms for Olympic Tickets. Olympic Modern Pentathlon fans can book Olympic Modern Pentathlon Tickets from our ticketing marketplace exclusively on discounted prices.
Several of the senior British contingents will be fresh off a warm-weather training camp and will be looking to build on the performances they laid down at the fiercely contested National Ranking 1 competition a few weeks ago, which saw Sam Curry and Joanna Muir secure their first ever British Championship wins. With the Tokyo Olympic on the horizon and a vast number of international competitions next year, a good performance will be crucial in cementing positions on the National Ranking list, which will feed forward to international selection.
January’s event is set to follow a similar format to the British Open Pentathlon (National Ranking 1), beginning in the fencing hall before moving to the pool, where, in-line with next year’s World Championships and the Olympic 2020 there will be a short course set up. The laser-run will then precede the ride at West Wilts Equestrian Centre – where it’s hoped another fine display of horsemanship will bring the competition to an exciting close.
With top athletes expected to travel from right across the country, it looks highly likely that January’s event will ensure the busy calendar of Olympic 2020 kicks off competitively! As a reminder, the deadline for entries for the National Ranking 2 Competition is Wednesday 8th January, at 2pm.
